The Genesis Invitational 2026 Signature Event, Golf Odds, Preview, Picks And Props
The second straight Signature Event of the year on the PGA Tour is The Genesis Invitational 2026 tournament at iconic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palasades, CA. I provide golf coverage at BetOnline and Off Shore Gaming Association, where you can review more details and preview of The Genesis Invitaional 2026 Signature Event.
Last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was the first Signature Event of 2026, and you can review our matchups, which went 1-2 on all underdogs and some unfortunate events that happened and could have been 3-0. That’s part of the Hazards and Rough when wagering on golf. Profits still in place on posted tournament matchups this season following a 3-0 start in the Sony Open, The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open.
Also, check out the latest LIV Golf updates and the problems they are still having generating more interest and watch and wager action.

The Course
Take a hole-by-hole look at Riviera Country Club along with insight into the iconic par 71 course that plays to nearly 7,400 yards.
Riviera Country Club is a par 71 classical design that plays to nearly 7,400 yards. Sitting inside a small canyon and tucked away inside a residential area just South of Sunset Boulevard, the natural features of the terrain and near-perfect routing has Riviera consistently mentioned as one of the best designed courses and architectural treasures. Riviera is about strategy, precision and placement over strength and power with players shaping shots and controlling trajectory into firm greens that repel marginal shots and placement. There are some severe contours and handling the subtle undulations on greens has proven more difficult to make putts from inside 6-feet. Riviera ranks as the fourth toughest course on Tour in Strokes Gained Putting.
Many doglegs and ‘angular golf’ is in play with sloping fairways ensuring fewer level lies as players position shots to hit into oversized Poa annua greens (ave. 7,500 sq. feet). The Kikuyu rough is erratic and unpredictable as the ball will sit up on top of the rough at times, leading to some flyer lies. The ball can also nestle down to the bottom, forcing players to grip the club tighter to prevent the grabby, velcro-like Kikuyu from closing the clubface.
The course should play soft on Thursday with early-week rain, and dry out over the weekend. The greens are usually firm and fast, but with narrower fairways tightening beyond 300 yards, hitting greens becomes a challenge when missing fairways from the kikuyu rough with the average GIR at Riviera just 56%. Riviera has the second-lowest Driving Accuracy/Greens in Regulation percentage combination on Tour, and many of its 58 bunkers are deep, penal hazards. There is no water at Riviera, but deep, natural gullies (Barrancas) run throughout the course and are difficult to escape as additional hazards.
There are risk/reward par 4’s including the driveable 10th. A strong collection of distinctive par 3’s are challenging. The scoring opportunities are on the three par 5’s with a combined Birdie or Better rate of 44.5%. Approximately 74% of approaches come from 150 yards or more with nearly half of those falling in the 150-200 yard range. But long iron strength and trajectory control from 200+ yards is also in play, noting the eucalyptus trees that line the corridors with the challenging 237-yard par 3 at No. 4 an early long-iron test.
Course experience is a real premium on this classical set-up, as the course simply cannot be overpowered. That’s reason enough for one of our matchup picks below with more struggles this week for Riviera first-time starter Chris Gotterup.
Recent Results and Top Finishers Returning to Riviera
Last year’s Genesis Invitational was played at Torrey Pines due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area. We’ll throw out those results, and add some insight with stats and profiles on leading contenders and players of interest for The Genesis Invitational 2026 event.
Hideki Matsuyama (-17) won the 2024 Genesis at Riviera shooting a final-round 62 en route to a 3-shot victory. It marked the lowest final round at Riviera in tournament history. California natives Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele finished top 5, while Harris English, Tom Hoge, Jason Day, Sam Burns, Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood and J.T. Poston finished top 10.
Valencia, CA native Max Homa (-12) won the 2021 Genesis in a playoff over Tony Finau. Sam Burns and Matt Fitzpatrick finished top 5 and Cantlay top 10. Homa (-15) also finished runner-up in 2023 with Cantlay 3rd, and Morikawa, Sahith Theegala and Jason Day finished top 10 and Scheffler T12. Morikawa and Cameron Young (-17) finished T2 in 2022 while Hovland and Adam Scott finished top 5 with Scheffler, Homa, Maverick McNealy and Rory McIlroy top 10. Adam Scott (-11) also won the 2020 Genesis.
Riviera was the site of Jack Nicklaus’ professional debut, and Tiger Woods’ first PGA TOUR tournament. Yet neither of those golfing legends won the tournament at Riviera.
Recognized as one of the great golf courses in America, Riviera will be the host golf course for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Hall of Famer Johnny Miller once said Riviera is “Definitely one of the greatest no-nonsense golf courses in the world. It requires a player to use every club in his bag and every shot in his game.”

Tournament Matchups
– Young (-115) over Gotterup
– McIlroy (+220) over Scheffler
Rory McIlroy finished T14 last week at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in his 2026 PGA Tour while shooting 64 on Sunday. It was a disappointing event considering the 36-year-old 5-time Major winner carded three double-bogeys and a triple-bogey while also missing numerous putts 3-6 feet. In McIlroy’s last seven visits to Riviera, he’s finished top 5 twice, top 10 and last year T17. Length is an advantage and especially if it’s wet with McIlroy and other big hitters able to hit shorter irons into the greens and control spin and trajectory. McIlroy will play in the top featured group Thursday and Friday with Tommy Fleetwood and Collin Morikawa.
Tommy Fleetwood had a strong 2026 debut last week finishing T4 at Pebble Beach. The 35-year-old Englishman is up to No. 3 in the world rankings after winning the Tour Championship last year. He’s top 5 across Strokes Gained stats at Riviera since 2021 and finished T20 and T10 in 2023-24.
Patrick Cantlay is top 5 in Strokes Gained at Riviera since 2021, joining Scheffler, Morikawa, Schauffele and Fleetwood. The 33-year-old Long Beach native has three top 20 and three top 5 finishes in this event including 3rd in 2023 and T4 in 2024 when he led halfway through after shooting 64-65. He finished T14 last week at Pebble Beach with a final round 65.
Cameron Young nearly pulled off the very rare win on debut at Riviera when he finished T2 in 2022 after leading through 36 holes shooting 66-62. The 28-year-old followed up with two more solid top 20 performances the next two years, and his driving strength should carry him to solid results again this year. As a correlated course to Augusta National at The Masters, Riviera is a great course fit for Young’s strengths, as his Ball Striking and Off the Tee stats have been better along with Approach play.
Sepp Straka broke through with a big year in 2025 winning a Signature Event along with The American Express in California. The 32-year-old Austrian finished T2 last week at Pebble Beach 1-stroke beyond winner Collin Morikawa. Over his last 8 events, Straka ranks top-3 in this field in Tee-to-Green stats, and top 10 in Approach and top 25 in Putting. His best finish in this event over five starts since 2022 is T15 in 2022 after a poor start on Thursday.
Viktor Hovland had a strong debut in this event finishing T5 in 2021. He finished T4 in 2022 and was in position to win after shooting 64-65 on Friday, Saturday. The 28-year-old former U.S. Amateur winner at Pebble Beach is improving his short game to go along with his top-ranked long iron Proximity stats from 200+ yards, and he can contend again having also finished top 20 in this event in 2023 and 2024.
Maverick McNealy is the 30-year-old Stanford golfer and former No. 1 ranked amateur. He’s off to a solid start in 2026 and has been a perennially good West Coast performer. He led the Tour in SG: Putting in 2023, and his solid putting and familiarity with Poa annua has played into his solid results in California and at Riviera. He finished T2 in 2022 in his second start at Riviera and did not play in the event the next two years.
Other solid performers at Riviera include Xander Schauffele, who has a top 5, top 10 and three top 20 finishes with a best of T4 in 2024. Schauffele will play in another notable featured group with Si Woo Kim and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has finished top 10 in 18 consecutive tournaments. Collin Morikawa finished T6, T9 and T19 from 2022-24 and is back in top form having won last week at Pebble Beach. Scheffler T7, T12, T10 from 2022-24 and he’s won an amazing 15 of his last 40 starts on Tour. Harris English T12 in 2023 and 7th in 2024. Sahith Theegala is from Orange County and played golf at Pepperdine. He finished T6 in the 2023 event.
Next week it’s the Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches in Florida.
