A lighter field at the Valero Texas Open, where I provided an early tournament preview at TheLines ahead of next week's Masters. Just six of the top-40 players in the world rankings are playing at TPC San Antonio, including native Texan and Longhorns favorites Scottie Scheffler, who was runner-up in last week's WGC Match Play in Austin. A sports betting colleague fired me some historical Elite Eight tips and data that includes seeding results for teams playing in the Elite Eight. The Elite Eight betting match-ups and odds includes three Pac-12 teams along with three No. 1 seeds. Those top seeds, Gonzaga, Baylor and Michigan, went 3-0 SU/ATS in the Sweet 16, and No. 1 seeds are now 15-1 SU and 11-5 ATS in the Sweet 16 in the last five editions of the NCAA Tournament.

The Pac-12 continues it's remarkable March Madness run with three teams in the Elite Eight. Two more advanced through the Sweet 16 as outright winners of more than 6-points as No. 12 seed Oregon State (+7) shut down another bracket buster No. 8 Loyola Chicago, 65-58. The best results for a majority of leading online sportsbooks was UCLA (+7) beating Alabama in overtime, 88-78. The Bruins overcame a beyond the NBA 3-point buzzer beater by Alabama to send the game to OT as time expired.

The No. 1 seeds are often the strongest teams, and have the keys to NCAA Tournament success. Still, even the strongest teams can bet beaten earlier than expected, which is what Illinois found out to misplaced No. 8 seed Loyola Chicago in the Round of 32.
