Hole No.17 – short par 3 famed Island green at TPC Sawgrass
TPC Sawgrass is considered a positional and second shot golf course where strong iron players and ball strikers excel. Strong course management and patience is required. The tight Pete Dye design can be tricky with sightlines, and hazards await for players that are not accurate from the tee or precise with their irons and on approach. The quirky greenside bunkers and undulations put an emphasis on scrambling and short game, and the runoff areas around the greens allow players more options and creativity.
Big bombers have no real advantage. Greens in Regulation (GIR) is essential to success when hitting into many smaller putting surfaces.
The Players Championship 2024 Golf Picks
Fairway’s Favorites: Scheffler, Aberg, Thomas, Matsuyama
Fairway’s Longshots: Fleetwood, Straka, Conners, Si Woo Kim
Tournament Match-ups: Aberg (+140) over Morikawa and Thomas (-115) over Schaffele (BetOnline)
Round 1 Match-up: Brian Harman (-105) over Nick Taylor (105) -Circa
FYI: When wagering to win, I don’t bet players with low pre-tournmanet odds like Scheffler. Consider in-play or ahead of Round 2, 3, 4, but usually no pre-tournament bets on golfers with single-digit odds.
Two years ago in the 2023 Players Championship was a 1-0 tournament matchup winner plus a Round 1 winner with Tommy Fleetwood in both matchups. We’re high and fly with Fleetwood again in the 2025 Players Championship.
Recall in the 2021 PLAYERS when we bet and hit Justin Thomas at 22/1 outright and cashed more tournament matchup winners, including on JT.
The @SuperBookNV has #PlayersChampionship golf prop on hole #17: Balls in Water – O/U 54.5. (last 4 yrs 36, 58, 64, 66 balls in the water. 2007 was 93, including a record 50 in Round 1 alone- stronger winds. 2014 just 28 water balls. More in @ForbesSports https://t.co/HMig4Oq4yi
