Top Golfers And Profiles For The 89th Masters Tournament At Augusta National

I’ve provided some thoughts, stats and player profiles on the top golfers and favorites shooting for the $3.6 million top prize. The watch and wager action will be huge, including on top finishing position and matchups bets. That includes on Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, the two prohibitive favorites at less than 7/1 pre-tournament odds who will also be paired in head-to-head matchup bets at FanDuel and top online sportsbooks.

The advance weather forecast for Augusta, Georgia looks nearly ideal with mostly sunny skies, light winds and mid-70s temperatures. But that’s changed on Masters week, and there is nearly a 70% chance of rain Friday for Round 2 with 8-10 mph winds and gusts up to 23 mph. Sunday shapes up ideal while Saturday shows nearly a 25% chance of rain.

More Hole-By-Hole Insight And Scoring Averages

  • Hole 1: Tea Olive – Par 4, 445 yards (Rank 7)

Top Golfers And Odds

Scottie Scheffler (+460)

The No. 1 player in the world won the 2022 and 2024 Masters including by four strokes last year, shooting 11-under-par 277 with a 66 on Sunday. He’s the only player in the field to finish top-25 in each of the last five years at The Masters, with his worst finish (T19) on debut in 2020. The 28-year-old Scheffler has not won on Tour yet this year, but the two-time major winner finished T3 at The Genesis Invitational in February and T2 last week at the Houston Open with Data Golf stats showing Scheffler’s putting his best in more than a year.

His stats and skill sets are ideally suited for Augusta with now even more experience to match his power and accuracy, distance control and short-game, with only his putting potentially holding him back from joining Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in winning a third green jacket one year after a second. Last year Scheffler’s odds to win the Masters a month ahead of the tournament were +850 before dropping to +400 with his back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. Over his last 24 rounds, Scheffler ranks top-3 in this field in Strokes Gained Approach and Total. He also ranks No. 1 in SG: Ball Striking at Augusta since making his Masters debut. Despite Scheffler’s historically low odds, he’s taken more money to win the 2025 Masters at FanDuel Sportsbook than any other golfer as the player to beat.

  • Hole 2: Pink Dogwood – Par 5, 585 yards (Rank 17)

Rory McIlroy (+650)

Eight of the 10 Masters winners won the green jacket for the first time. If McIlroy wins The Masters, the 35-year-old Irishman will complete the career Grand Slam with his 5th major championship win. Since his last major win in 2014, McIlroy has 21 top-10 finishes in majors—the most in a 10-year span in the modern era without a victory. McIlroy concluded the 2024 season with a win at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Over his last 24 rounds, McIlroy ranks No. 1 in SG: Total and No. 2 in Off-the-Tee plus improved No. 6 in Putting. During that stretch, he’s won twice at Pebble Beach and The Players Championship, where he was also one of the top golfers and favorites as he won for the 28th time on the PGA Tour. McIlroy is ranked No. 2 in the world and he’s posted six top-10 finishes in the Masters including 2nd in 2022 but he never contended with a final round 64 leaving him 3-shots behind Scheffler. He’s not factored in his last two Masters finishing T22 last year and missing the cut in 2023.

He’s been a slow starter at Augusta in his 30s, with the 71 opening round last year his best the past six years. The addition of putting coach Brad Faxon has been a big boost as his chipping and putting has been perhaps the best it’s been since his last major win 11 years ago. The addition of Dr. Bob Rotella, the legendary golf psychologist, to help refine Rory’s mental game has been the final piece of the puzzle driving McIlroy to some of his greatest golf and best version of himself.

  • Hole 3: Flowering Peach – Par 4, 350 yards (Rank 15)

Collin Morikawa (+1500)

The 28-year-old 2-time major winner is playing some of the best golf on Tour this year after entering last year’s Masters out of form with putrid putting and 50/1 odds to win. His Masters log reads T18 in 2021, T5 in 2022, T10 in 2023 after starting strong with 69-69 and T3 last year when he contended for the first time but suffered a poor back-9 finish Sunday and shot a final round 74. Morikawa currently ranks No. 1 in SG: Approach, with his elite and dynamic irons spearheading his last 24 rounds of top-5 Total, top-12 Off the Tee and Around the Green and much improved Putting. He’s finished top-20 in all five starts this year including T10 at The Players Championship and 2nd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational after holding the 54-hole lead and leading into the closing holes.

  • Hole 4: Flowering Crab Apple – Par 3, 240 yards (Rank 3)

Ludvig Aberg (+1700)

The 25-year-old Swedish star is on the fast track and No. 5 in the world after winning The Genesis Invitational this year with a powerful performance over Torrey Pines. Aberg finished 8th in his Players Championship debut last year, but missed the cut in the Players a few weeks ago. Bettors are hoping he doesn’t repeat those results in The Masters, as Aberg finished runner-up last year in his Masters Tournament debut. His elite Off the Tee game aligns with birdie opportunities, and his proximity to hole stats inside 100 yards are best in this field over his last 24 rounds. Nitpicking and naysayers may have some slight doubt and Aberg has lost strokes Around the Green in three of his last four starts and Putting in two of his last four tournaments.

  • Hole 5: Magnolia – Par 4, 495 yards (Rank 1)

Jon Rahm (+1700)

Rahm leads the 12 eligible players from LIV Golf playing in The Masters. The 30-year-old Spaniard broke through to win the green jacket and The Masters in 2023 after out-dueling Brooks Koepka. Rahm had four previous top-10s in five starts at Augusta but T45 last year after barely making the cut. He dominated in his 2023 Masters victory as the first golfer in nearly three decades to hit 85% of fairways and 75% of greens in regulation at Augusta National. Then the top PGA pro took his clubs to the LIV Golf Tour late in 2023, and now plays around the world in 54-hole events with smaller fields, less top-level competition but big purses. This year on LIV Rahm has four top-6 finishes, and fans interested in the his performance and other LIV golfers in The Masters can follow the LIV Golf Miami event at Trump National this weekend.

  • Hole 6: Juniper – Par 3, 180 yards (Rank 10)

Bryson DeChambeau (+2100)

Big hitting Bryson led The Masters last year following Rounds 1 and 2 after opening with a 65 on Thursday. He finished T6 to join Cam Smith as the top LIV Golf finisher. Still, 9 of his last 10 rounds at Augusta have been over par, and he missed the cut in 2022 and 2023. His previous best finish was T21 on debut in 2016. He’s come a long ways since then, but bad boy Bryson still has shortcomings in Approach play and Around-the-Green. That hasn’t deterred bettors, as FanDuel reports that DeChambeau leads all golfers with the most bets to win the 2025 Masters one week ahead of the tournament.

  • Hole 7: Pampas – Par 4, 450 yards (Rank 7)

Xander Schauffele (+2100)

His odds have drifted out since a rib cartilage injury sidelined the 31-year-old Schauffele for two months to start the year following The Sentry event. Xander made three starts in March, but struggled badly his first two before a T12 finish at the Valspar Championship with his career-best Approach play numbers. The No. 3 ranked golfer in the world and 2-time major champion from last year is making his 7th Masters start, and has finished top-3 twice at Augusta plus top-10’s the last two years. He was the only player in last year’s Masters field who had posted seven straight top-20 finishes in majors, and then finished 8th at Augusta before winning both the PGA Championship and British Open with a T7 at the U.S. Open sandwiched between. All those credentials aside, Schauffele hasn’t driven the ball well since returning from injury, hasn’t contended in a tournament since last September and is overbet as one of the top-7 golfers by FanDuel’s data.

  • Hole 8: Yellow Jasmine – Par 5, 570 yards (Rank 15)

Justin Thomas (+2400)

Thomas remains a major threat and good fit at Augusta despite missed cuts at The Masters each of the past two years. The 31-year-0ld posted six straight top-22 finishes at the Masters previously. The 2-time major winner has found his groove again after struggling in 2023. Four top-10’s this year including a pair of runner-up finishes are fueld by his strong iron play and Approach stats, which are No. 6 on Tour over his last 24 rounds and top-10 in proximity to hole across 100-175 yards.

  • Hole 9: Carolina Cherry – Par 4, 460 yards (Rank 12)

Hideki Matsuyama (+2800)

The 33-year-old Japanese star has top-20 finishes in The Masters in eight of the last 10 years after finishing T38 in 2024. That includes a win and green jacket in 2021 when he entered in poor form, poor putting pedigree and odds near +7500, or 75/1 to win. His Scrambling and Bogey Avoidance stats remain strong at Augusta, and his experience shines with good course management skills. Hideki is up to No. 6 in the world rankings having won The Sentry opening 2025 tournament, but he’s not finished top-10 in seven starts since including a missed cut at The Players Championship. Matsuyama has lost strokes on Approach in 4-of-5 tournaments since the late January and lost strokes Off the Tee in four events and Putting in five events starting with the Farmers.

  • Hole 10: Camellia — Par 4, 495 yards (Rank 6)

Joaquin Niemann (+2900)

The 26-year-old Chilean is breaking barriers and setting a standard on LIV Golf having won LIV Mayakoba, LIV Jeddah, LIV Singapore and LIV Adelaide the past year. The foregiving fairways at Augusta and distance advantage favor the long-hitting Niemann, who averages 314 yards off the tee in LIV events and hits greens at a ridiculously high rate. His putting has improved to be one of the better flat sticks on LIV as well and the most complete player. Still, he’s not fared well in 22 major championship starts with just one top-20 finish and that was T16 at Augusta in 2023 followed by T22 last year at The Masters.

  • Hole 11: White Dogwood — Par 4, 520 yards (Rank 1)

Jordan Spieth (+3600)

Spieth won the Masters at age 21 in 2015 and became the No. 1 ranked golfer later that summer. The 3-time major winner is now ranked No. 66 in the world a decade later, and his one-time elite putting is now his worst strokes gained stat at No. 60 in this field over his last 24 rounds. Still, Spieth is a popular player in the betting market in the top 10 of FanDuel’s golfers bet to win and money wagered to wear his second green jacket. The 13-time PGA Tour winner has finished T3 and T4 at The Masters in 2021 and 2023 while missing the cut in 2022 and 2024. He still hasn’t won on Tour since the 2022 RBC Heritage, which is now a Signature Event on Hilton Head Island the week after The Masters.

  • Hole 12: Golden Bell — Par 3, 155 yards (Rank 9)

Tommy Fleetwood (+3600)

Golf’s highest-ranked player without a PGA Tour win is Tommy Fleetwood (11). In fact, the 34-year-old Englishman is the only player in the top 30 without a win, and only four in the top 50 are still firing for their first PGA Tour victory (Byeong Hun An, Greyserman, Canter). Even Fleetwood’s fellow England golfer Aaron Rai has earned a win with Fleetwood shooting for his first in his 151st start at The Masters, where he finished T3 last year at Augusta with two other top-20’s the past five years. Add in eight top-10 finishes in all major championships and popular Tommy boy has proven he’s a most reliable player. Fleetwood is also hitting the ball as well as ever with elite irons while finishing top-25 in every event since last year’s FedExCup Playoffs. Add in solid chipping and short game and he’s most capable to be competitive at Augusta again, and perhaps breakthrough for a win.

The Masters

Additional Contenders

As we make the turn and continue Masters golf coverage and approach Amen Corner at Augusta National at holes 11, 12 and 13, here are additional golfers and contenders with the next wave of odds as players approach the long 520-yard par 4 at No. 11—toughest scoring hole at Augusta in 2024. Then it’s the beautiful flowers and Golden Bell at No. 12 for the par 3 with the presence of Rae’s Creek in front of the green, which golfers cross via the Ben Hogan Bridge.

  • +3400: Brooks Koepka
  • +3600: Viktor Hovland
  • +3600: Tyrrell Hatton
  • +3900: Shane Lowry
  • +4100: Will Zalatoris
  • +4100: Patrick Cantlay

Next group of players on the drive for 55: Houston Open winner Min Woo Lee (+4600) and all these players at +5500, or 55/1 to win The Masters: Russell Henley, Cameron Smith, Tony Finau, Corey Conners, Robert MacIntyre and Akshay Bhatia.
