The Genesis Invitational 2024 Golf Betting Preview and Picks

Following the Elevated/Signature Event at the Phoenix Open and an outright longshot winner on Nick Taylor (1801/) along with tournament matchup winner on Jordan Spieth (+115) over Max Homa (cut), we move back to CA for the final PGA Tour event on the West Coast Swing at famed Riviera Country Club for The Genesis Invitational 2024 event.

I chip-in a betting preview and coverage in Forbes, and host Tiger Woods his making his 2024 debut at Riviera.

I’ve had success betting this event and picking matchup winners, including in the 2022 Genesis and big longshot in the 2021 Genesis with more tournament matchup winners.

This year’s 71 player invitational field includes 9 of the top 10 in the world rankings and 41 of the top 50. But Jon Rahm (No. 3) is out having left to play on the LIV Golf Tour, which I was at last week for LIV Golf Las Vegas and followed Rahm, DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson (winner) in the final group. The tournament, atmosphere and event exceeded my expectations, but I’m still most interested in the PGA Tour and how they will figure out a way to make golf better together in the future.

Follow the money as they figure it out, and same with the odds to win below and more matchups and tournament props offered by the leading online sportsbooks.

The Genesis Invitational 2024

Delayed posting here this week as I’ve had a full week following another winning Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas posting 5-of-6 player prop winners along with a Pick on ‘Under’ the total 47.5) in the Chiefs 25-22 OT win over the 49ers, who we had as an Opinion and San Francisco blew it.

Stats

The last two winners of The Genesis Invitational, Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann, both led the field that week in strokes gained, Approach. Both those golfers are now playing on the LIV Golf Tour.

Leading favorites and contenders this week who rank highly (top 15 in field) in SG: Approach over their last 24 rounds include: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Eric Cole, Tony Finau, Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy. Also, Schauffele and Theegala are the only two players from that group who also rank top-15 in SG: Putting on Poa annua over their last 24 rounds.

There may be fewer tournament matchup picks posted in 2024 with coverage across various platforms. I’ll try to add more picks and props and update more coverage as time allows and I dig deeper into strokes gained stats and weekly tournaments. Next week it’s the Mexico Open ahead of the Florida Swing, which starts Feb. 29 with the Cognizant Classic (formerly Honda Classic)
