Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds And 2023 Picks In Detroit

Just six more PGA Tour events until the 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs, which includes three tournaments starting Aug. 10 with the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. But this week it’s the fifth edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. I chip-in coverage for FanDuel and affiliates including some dark horse picks.

My 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and preview in Forbes has more golf odds, insight and information you can bet on.

Rocket Mortgage Classic odds

We cashed in last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic when Tony Finau won in a record-setting performance (-26).

I evaluate strokes gained data to assist with my research and handicapping, along with additional tools and sources below.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Picks

Chip-in for additional tournament match-up picks, and email me for added direct picks and updates: [email protected].

I’ve bet others in props and match-ups, and will add any others of interest and as time and research allows on Twitter.

Update: Round 1 winners on Doug Ghim (-6) over Brandon Wu (-2) and Sam Stevens (-2). Seven birdies and an eagle for Ghim plus 3 bogey’s in Round 1. Ghim led the field in SG: Putting (+4.57) in Round 1 and was top-10 SG: Total (+4.32).

Doug Ghim is really coming on and in top form entering the Rocket Mortgage Classic. While he missed the cut here last year, the 27-year-old former top-ranked amateur out of the University of Texas has finished top 20 in each of his three recent PGA Tour events. Brandon Wu has missed the cut in three of his last four starts. Despite showing some flashes and pockets of birdie binges, Wu’s inconsistent play is flagged as he’s also lost strokes Around the Green in four straight events and negative Putting in nine of his last 13.

The strokes gained golf stats also bear out a bigger edge for Ghim. When playing on Poa greens like Detroit Golf Club, Ghim is stronger and Wu is especially deficient in Short Game, Around-the-Green, and Putting as he sits outside the top-125 in this field in all three categories. Wu is also outside the top-125 in Proximity to the hole from 100-125 yards. Ghim is not only better and especially stronger in his last three events gaining strokes across the board, but Ghim is No. 1 in this field in Proximity from 175-200 yards on courses with Poa greens.
