College Basketball Betting – Inside the Numbers and Evaluating ATS results

In this Part I series of Inside the NumbersCollege Basketball Betting, we take a look at and evaluate close ATS results.  Since the start of the 2013 season, I have monitored college basketball results, box scores and against the spread ( ATS ) results. I’m often asked about close results and usually emailed, tweeted or text a message about a close win or loss (usually loss).  It’s important to understand some of the random variances that can take place in betting sports, and in this case college basketball. Over the course of a college basketball season the average margin of a final score will fall with 8-9 points from the betting line.  But do you know how many games land within 5-points of the betting line and the impact of those close ATS results on your bankroll or psychological impact for you or college basketball teams? Understanding motivation, letdown, home court, coaching and of course the fundamental match-ups and relevant stats that are most important in handicapping college basketball are all part of the process of evaluating match-ups, contests and impacting ATS results.
