Firing on all Cylinders – Pistons to Pick up the Pace with New Coach

Detroit Pistons To Pick Up The Pace With New Coach

Pistons PG JenningsHandicapping the NBA requires an understanding of stats, situations, scheduling and a willingness to change gears as teams can quickly go from hot to cold and visa-versa.  The impact of trades can have an immediate effect on a team with such the case in Toronto as the Raptors are 20-11 SU and 22-8-1 ATS since they rid themselves of Rudy Gay.  With the change of coaches in Detroit, we expect the Pistons to pick up the pace and allow their offense to flow more freely.  New interim coach John Loyer is going to push this team faster and PG Brandon Jennings is playing at a very fast pace.  Along with Detroit’s deficient defense, we expect many high-scoring shootouts ahead.

Assistant coach John Loyer takes over as coach of the Pistons following the firing of Maurice Cheeks February 9th.   In the Pistons first game after his firing, Detroit beat Western Conference contender and defending conference champs San Antonio 109-100.  But in an effort to be ahead of the curve and projecting totals that will rise, let’s look for Detroit to push the pace and play much faster under new coach Loyer.  Detroit had 90 shot attempts vs. the Spurs and took the foot off the gas pedal in the fourth quarter with just 17 points after leading by 20 to start the fourth quarter.  Detroit does have some solid shooters, and the combination of faster pace and poor defense should only add up to more scoring in Pistons games.  Detroit is now 20-7 over the total at home this season including 16-3 over the total at home the past 2+ months since November 29, 2013.
