College Basketball Handicapping – Undefeated Home Teams
Undefeated Home Teams
Every season I discuss and post information on the importance of home courts in college basketball and mention how teams perform with a home/road dichotomy. Understanding home court advantage and the situations surrounding the current contests is important in helping you isolate winners. While the oddsmaker factors home court into the pointspread, there are teams who still perform much better on their home floor. Understanding player strengths and match-ups, team chemistry, current form and statistical performance both home and away is part of breaking down a game. Supporting fans and a comfortable surrounding should only help the home team perform better. Along with good coaching and preparation, players can become more consistent in their play at home along with their performance when having to take to the road in hostile environments. Once teams get to postseason play, you must factor in and handicap a team’s home/road performance to deliver more pointspread winners.
Some of the best situational plays develop during late January and February. Many conference teams are now playing “second meets” or opponents for the second time in conference play. These contests present another dynamic with familiarity, revenge, motivation and home court all factoring into your handicap. I’ll have some of those strong situations in the weeks ahead and through the end of the regular season and college conference tournaments ( CCT’s ).
Last Saturday I wrote up numerous games supporting short home favorites including many with strong home courts with zero or 1-loss home teams. We had a huge Saturday for Members going 11-2 including 3-0 on Top Plays. Some of the analysis was posted on other sites in which I write games days in advance, but know that some of these games never make it to our card or member plays as injuries, line adjustments or results from games just prior to the written analysis may impact our play or decision to support.
Plenty of college basketball to look forward to in the next 6-8 weeks, and I thought you might benefit by knowing the teams that have gone undefeated at home this basketball season. Below I present to you the current list of undefeated home teams in college basketball. While the teams listed below remain undefeated, there are plenty of teams with one or two home losses that have proven to perform their best at home. Similarly, many teams have losing records or weak home courts in which you can support short road favorites if the situations and stats support a play against these weak home teams and courts.
Each college basketball season there are approx. 10-15 teams that go undefeated at home for the entire season. Through January 20, there are currently 34 teams that remain undefeated on their home court. Many of these teams have a proven and strong 3-4 year record on their home floor, but some will be overvalued at home the remainder of the season.
The ability to understand scheduling and motivational situations will help you when playing on teams with both strong and weak home courts in the final 4-6 weeks of the regular season. By following a team’s roster, personnel and growth along with teams and coaches strengths and weaknesses, you should be able to isolate more winners. It’s up to you the creative self-handicapper to find ways to use the power of these sites ( think momentum, revenge, off a loss ) to deliver more point spread winners.
If you don’t have the time, energy or ability to follow all the action and if your shots are not falling consistently, then join me for more victories and value as we bang the boards and shoot for more Fairways and Green through the rest of the regular season and Final Four.
