Big 12 Season Preview – Betting Futures Odds and Win Total
My Big 12 team and season preview links are at the bottom of this article below. I’ve been reading, writing and researching plenty in preparation for the upcoming college football season. That includes providing season previews for various publications and online sites. The team links below take you to the Big 12 season preview with betting futures odds and win total for some of the projected contenders. I work within a guideline and format to provide insight, info and analysis. But writing these team previews is just part of the research we do in preparation for the regular season. These previews are a guideline and general information overview, but the important part begins in the regular season when we analyze and interpret the information weekly to provide point spread winners.
Still, each season their are opportunities in the season win total market and early season betting lines. Following a week or two of play, you’re going to see large adjustments in lines and power ratings based on performance. By researching the teams, players and related information through spring and fall practice, you can start to gauge and interpret information to help you at the start of the season. Many times lesser known or teams not expected to do well will carry value in the betting market not only in the early season but throughout the season as bettors fail to adjust and change their early-season opinions. TCU was the perfect example last year as the Horned Frogs were un-ranked and off a 4-win season in 2013 and they simply went 7-0 ATS to start the season. We capitalized on a easy season over/under win total recommendation and wager on the Horned Frogs, but clearly they exceeded all expectations with a 12-1 season while going 11-2 ATS.
This over/under reaction and performance evaluation applies to top-25 or higher-rated teams as well. I’ll provide the perfect example in my upcoming ACC article. Many higher-rated will fail to meet expectations early and become big money losers. So don’t get caught up in the hype on some of these teams, and know TCU goes from un-ranked and projected bottom-tier Big 12 team last year to a Top-5 preseason ranking and FBS playoff favorite in 2015.
Meanwhile, the Baylor Bears are back for another run at the Big 12 title, which they shared with TCU last season going 8-1 with the remarkable rally and win over the Horned Frogs, 61-58. Both those teams were shunned by the 13-member NCAA selection committee and left out of the FBS playoffs. I like the Bears again this season, but the expectations are high. I noted in my preseason preview of Baylor that head coach Art Briles is clearly one of the best coaches for what he’s accomplished not only at Baylor, but in his coaching career. He’s masterful.
What head coach Art Briles has accomplished at Baylor is arguably the best coaching job in America, as he’s turned a complete doormat program into a national powerhouse in less than eight years. Last year Baylor finished No. 7 in the AP Poll; their highest finish ever.
So being able to adjust and have an open mind regarding preseason predictions and opinions is an important part of winning and wagering on college football. Injuries, information and performance change from week to week and you must evaluate the match-ups, situations and stats while uncovering as much relevant information as available.
Best wishes as your prepare, wager and win this football season and enjoy the information we provide along the way.
