I’ve been reading, writing and researching plenty in preparation for the upcoming college football season. That includes providing season previews for various publications and online sites.

Will Mississippi State meet expectations following a breakthrough season in 2014?
Last season we were spot on in our early analysis and preview of Mississippi State as a surprise team to watch. The Bulldogs simply went from unranked to No. 1 in the nation after a 9-0 start. We road the Bulldogs often including a huge Top Play winner as a 10-point underdog at LSU when they went wire-to-wire in a big win in their SEC opener.
Bur remember, these and all the season previews you read from various pundits become somewhat irrelevant as teams battle through the regular season. And note too that there are always season surprises and disappointments for teams and it’s important to make adjustments and not get too attached to previews or expectations before the season. After all, just two seasons ago, SEC West entrant Auburn went from a 0-8 SEC regular season in 2012 to the national title game in 2013 and nobody predicted anything close to that success prior to the season.
Throughout the college football season I use a combination of statistical and situational research and analysis with a focus on the fundamental matchups. That includes a look at point of attack play and how we see those matchups playing out. A blend of relevant technical parameters that includes home and road dichotomies, coaching profiles and updates on injuries and related personnel developments are analyzed. The situational and scheduling aspect is evaluated noting teams recent results, motivation and ability to bounce back following a particular disappointing game or suffer a letdown after an emotional contest. Add in current form and the all important point spread in search of value or a fair betting line and you can see how handicapping and analyzing games as a professional is put together to provide winning results.
As we prepare for the season and uncover additional information in our research, analysis and pursuit of profit, know that access to information is more readily available, and technology and social media provide instant access to additional information.
