Jameis Winston Named Florida State Starting QB
Seminoles heavy favorites again in ACC
Redshirt Freshman Jameis Winston will be the man leading the Seminoles offense this season. Jameis Winston will have large shoes to fill with previous ‘Noles quarterback E.J. Manuel having been the first QB selected in last spring’s NFL Draft.
Jameis isn’t one to shy away from the spotlight though. The Alabama native was the #1 overall QB in the nation coming out of High School and was a starting outfielder on the FSU baseball team during the fall. Winston has all of the tools to make a difference this year in the ACC and R-Freshman have recently had a lot of success at the college level; most notably Johnny Manziel last season.
Jameis will lead a Seminoles offense that was ranked 19th in the nation in total offense last season and will be backed up by a defense that was ranked 2nd in the nation in yards allowed, but has lost a lot of that talent to the NFL. The FSU offensive line has three 2nd team ACC offensive lineman returning this season (Bryan Stork, Tre’ Jackson and Cameron Erving) along with talented skill players in RB Devonta Freeman and Rashad Greene, both returning starters as juniors.
Following a 12-2 season in 2012 that included an ACC Atlantic Division title (8-1) and dominating 31-10 win over No. Illinois in the Orange Bowl, the Seminoles have the 2013 preseason #1 offense and #1 defense in the ACC.
Currently, Florida State is favored heading into 10 of its 12 games this season. They will be strong favorites similar to last season when they were a double digit favorite in 13 games but went just 4-9 ATS.
Florida State opens the 2013 season on Monday, September 2nd at Pittsburgh as a 10-point favorite.
