AFC Handicapping – Betting And Analyzing The AFC South And East Divisions

Prior to the preseason I wrote numerous articles on odds to win the Super Bowl, division titles and season over/under wins.  The AFC has one dominant team in Denver this season, and the rest of the hopefuls are pushing for a division crown.  The NFC is stronger again but plenty of top teams and contenders for the conference championship.

Here are some of my early thoughts on the division teams and races in the AFC East and AFC South.  Click the links below for analysis.  The New England Patriots have been the most successful team in the past decade winning 10 of the last 11 AFC East division titles.  Don’t see many ‘experts’ calling for a falloff from the Patriots, but know that the annual turnover of playoff teams over the past six seasons is nearly 6 of the 12 teams.  Don’t be surprised if the Patriots or Colts come up short this season.

Indianapolis is on my season bet list for under the total team wins, and I’m not nearly as high on the Colts as when I wrote this article below a month ago.  Just as we adjust our game and wagering interests weekly during the NFL season, so too do we continue our evaluation during the preseason and even offseason as we read and research more on teams and players.  Injuries, suspensions and player personnel adjustments and announcements impact our wagering and futures outlook ( see Arizona defensive injuries and suspensions for example ). There are too many holes and flaws on the Colts to consider them a solid contender this season, and while the AFC South division is seemingly week, changes and improvements happen quickly in the NFL and recall how bad the NFC West was in 2010 ( 7-9 division champ ) before now becoming the best division in the NFL.
