U.S. Open 2024 Golf Odds At Pinehurst No. 2

America’s golf championship returns to the Cradle of American Golf and the Sandhills of North Carolina for the 2024 U.S. Open June 13-16. Pinehurst No. 2 hosts its 4th U.S. Open with the last in 2014. The Donald Ross masterpiece has served as the site of more single golf championships than any course in America. That includes the 1999 U.S. Open and celebrating the late Payne Stewart’s win. The leading golfers from last week’s PGA Championship top the odds board, including winner Xander Schauffele, who made a 6-foot birdie putt in the final round on the 72nd hole to capture the Wanamaker Trophy.

More than 70 qualifiers will join the U.S. Open 2024 field from greater than 10,000 scratch golfers (0.4 handicap index or better can enter) that attempted to win their way into the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst. To date, 83 golfers are officially in the field including Tiger Woods, who accepted a special exemption. Any player in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of June 11 who isn’t already qualified gets into the 2024 U.S. Open.

Following the recent PGA Championship win by one of our outright picks and tournament matchup winners Xander Schauffele, betting on the top of the market players should draw most of the ‘birdie’ bets. That includes on world No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and last year’s longshot U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark. World No. 5 Viktor Hovland just finished 3rd in the PGA Championship with a chance to win on the closing holes.

The Course

Pinehurst No. 2 will play to 7,540 yards and Par 70 for the U.S. Open 2024 event. The course went through a restoration project in 2011 designed to restore the courses’ natural and historic character, and the strategic options that were the centerpiece of Ross’s vision. New champion Bermuda putting greens were added a decade ago just after the 2014 U.S. Open when Martin Kaymer (-9) was a runaway winner by 8 shots over Rickie Fowler and 10 shots ahead of Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day.

Firm and fast conditions and greens will make this year’s test among the toughest with a winning score in the even par to -5 range more likely. Instead of long rough, thousands of wire grass plants in sandy native areas that will make shot execution as much of a mental test as a physical one.

“We want to test every part of their game. We want them to hit it high, low, left to right, right to left. We want them to think about their golf ball. What happens to when it hits the ground, not just in the air,” Bodenhamer said at last week’s media day.
