NFL 2023 Week 1 Kickoff Lions vs Chiefs

The NFL 2023 season has arrived, and we’re back with our weekly updates, underdog picks and information you can bet on  for pro football coverage. That includes my weekly updates for media contributions for various outlets including Forbes. The NFL 2023 Week 1 Lions-Chiefs matchup kicks off the coverage on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Detroit at Kansas City

Check out all the stats and odds, props and picks for the Lions-Chiefs Week 1 game in my coverage for Forbes. I bet the Lions +6.5 before the line move down to +4.5 with Tuesday’s news that Travis Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee in practice and is questionable to play opening night. So I don’t have an official NFL 2023 Week 1 Fairway Forecast underdog pick on the Lions, but still have an opinion on Detroit despite the Lions resting their starters throughout the preseason.

Teams that rested their starters for the entire preseason are 6-13 SU and 7-12 ATS in Week 1 since the start of 2020, per Dr. Bob Sports. The Lions did not use starters in the preseason while the Chiefs did put them on the field.

NFL 2023 Week 1 Underdog Picks

I’ll be adding weekly NFL Underdog Picks with early considerations by each Wednesday at Off Shore Gaming Assocation and final picks on Friday with periodic additions over the weekend. Fairway’s Forecast and NFL Underdog picks have produced profit over 6 years posting with a record of 162-117 ATS (58.1%) with 92 outright underdog winners. That includes an unprecedented 70% season in 2021 going 28-12 with 21 outright winners.

Update Thursday morning: Accorinding to betting data from BetMGM, the Chiefs have taken more than 60% of the bets and approx. 55% of the money (handle) despite the odds adjustment from an opening line of -7 to -4.5. And nearly 60% of the bets and money is supporting ‘over’ the total.
