Golf Betting Preview and Picks: 2023 Honda Classic
Following last week’s Genesis Invitational and Jon Rahm’s third win of the season, the PGA Tour heads South for the first leg of the Florida Swing and the 2023 Honda Classic. You can view my initial Honda Classic preview in Forbes, where I chip in weekly tournament coverage, odds, picks and information you can bet on. I also add brief tournament preview on FanDuel and The Duel Sports including dark horse picks for The Honda Classic.
You can comparable odds for The Honda Classic from FanDuel and other leading online sportsbooks, including in Las Vegas at Super Book Sports and Circa Sports, which often have better odds for the bettor.
This week’s power rankings from the PGA Tour is another way to compare players and performance. Sungjae Im is the top player in the field at No. 18 in the world with just 3 top 20 and 7 top 50 players in action this week on Tour. Im is the prohibitive favorite to win, and also the 2020 Honda Classic champion.

My golf coverage and research includes use and references from sites at Golf Stats along with Fantasy National and Data Golf. I gain added information and betting news with fantasy golf insight from FanShare Sports and other sites and golf analysts. That includes top golf insider Justin Ray Golf, who contributes to PGA Tour (dot com) and The Athletic with insightful stats. I put it all together and add my intuitive feel for the game and betting acumen to provide golf picks and chip-in added insight with information you can bet on.
More than a decade ago I was a lead golf handicapper and analyst on a popular sports handicapping radio show out of Las Vegas whose picks were provided to a betting syndicate. I continue my golf coverage in a different format, and provide my experience and intuitive feel for the game and betting acumen to provide golf picks and chip-in added insight with information you can bet on.
This season, I’ll add more Round 1 matchup bets. I will limit tournament matchups posted on these pages, but have more available to those bettors that chip-in and wish to correspond with me directly. You can email me at [email protected] for more picks and information you can bet on. Having been a proven performer for decades, I’ve posted picks the last two years on Vegas Sports Zone and tournament match-ups were 41-27.
FairwayJay’s 2022 PGA Tour tournament match-up picks finished 20-12 and concluded with the TOUR Championship.
FairwayJay’s 2021 tournament match-ups finished 21-15 following a 17-5 start January through May.
The Honda Classic 2023 Picks
Fairway’s Favorites: Aaron Wise, Denny McCarthy, Billy Horschel, Jhonattan Vegas
Fairway’s Longshots: Joseph Bramlett, Byeong Hun An, Ben Griffin, Mattias Schwab
Tournament Match-up: Jhonattan Vegas (-120) over Harris English (DraftKings)
Round 1 Match-up: Check back later Wed.
A wise and prudent play may be adding Aaron Wise to your win bets and top finishing position wagers. We’ll be checking out his tournament match-up opponents and betting odds as released to determine any interest. Wise shot a pair of 64’s here in 2021 and led the Honda by 3-shots through 36 holes on his way to a T-13 finish. The 26-year-old fits a top-end profile in this field with difficult scoring conditions stats, bogey avoidance and scrambling, which he currently ranks No. 1 in scrambling from the fringe.
Harris English had the best strokes gained putting week of his career last week when finishing T-12 at The Genesis. But he lost more than 1 stroke from tee-to-green, and similar play on the tighter fairways and surrounding hazards at PGA National present trouble. Experienced Honda veteran Jhonny Vegas made the cut last week and had a pair of top 25 finishes his two previous starts vs stronger fields. His tee-to-green and ball striking stats history are strengths at PGA National.

Next week it’s another elevated event and $20 million purse with a majority of top players and stars for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
