Florida Swing Concludes With Valspar Championship Preview, Odds and Picks
Delayed PGA Tour coverage here this week with wall-to-wall basketball and March Madness tipping off. But we’ll get on the tee and shoot to chip-in more match-up winners and perhaps find the fairway and green with an outright winner. We did that last year in the Valspar with a 100/1 winner on Sam Burns. You can get a brief look of my 2022 Valspar Championship preview and coverage for PlayUSA as I chip-in and add to their regional coverage in Florida.
Five top 10 players in the world and 15 of the top 30 are in the field this week, and those top ranked golfers lead the field at lower odds to win.

Golfers with multiple top 15 finishes
There are nine players with multiple top 15 finishes at the Valspar Championship over the last five years:
- Sam Burns
- Paul Casey
- Bill Haase
- Adam Hadwin
- Jason Kokrak
- Louis Oosthuizen
- Charl Schwartzel
- Henrik Stenson
- Bubba Watson
Last week our tournament match-ups went a disappointing 1-1, and we’re now 7-2 this year. Looked like both were going to win by the weekend, and one of our opponents did miss the cut (Simpson). But Max Homa rallied to make the cut, and trailing by 3-shots into Sunday to our guy Abraham Ancer, Homa shot the low round of the day on Sunday with a 6-under 66 to send us into the hazard and rough on a bad break.
Valspar Championship Picks
Fairway’s Favorites: Justin Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick, Abraham Ancer, Keegan Bradley
Fairway’s Longshots: Gary Woodland, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Adam Hadwin, Danny Lee
Tournament Match-ups: Christiaan Bezuidenhout (+115) over Webb Simpson (BetMGM).
Tournament match-up picks are 7-2 this year. We’ll fade Webb Simpson again this week, and as I outlined and reviewed in my PLAYERS Championship preview for Forbes. He’s returning from a neck injury and missed the cut last week. Simpson has had some success at Copperhead, and even taken some money on this match-up, but we’ll take the plus price on Bezuidenhout.
Next week it’s the World Golf Championship Dell Match Play event at Austin Country Club in Texas.
