Record Ad Revenue for MLB Regular Season Game Projected for Field of Dreams Game

“If you build it, he will come,” is what a voice tells an Iowa corn farmer in the classic 1989 movie Field of Dreams. That’s also the lead-in to my Field of Dreams Game coverage for Forbes. Game day has arrived, and first pitch is at 7:15 p.m. ET on FOX with pre-game coverage of the special event on FSU starting at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Record ad revenue is expected for the Field of Dreams Game, according to Sports Business Journal – the largest ever in the 25 years FOX Sports has been airing MLB games, and more than doubling anything prior.

It’s already a huge success with the buildup and coverage, and record ticket prices are fueling further interest for the setting and game from the cornfields and MLB’s small new stadium in Iowa

“If baseball asks us, we love it,” said Fox Sports exec VP/sports sales Seth Winter to the SBJ.

FOX’s added coverage will include multiple aerial production drones to give a unique view in the broadcast.

Match-up and Betting

The Chicago White Sox (-175) are favored over the New York Yankees (+160 at William Hill Sportsbook), and I noted in a separate game day piece at Forbes that the White Sox made a pitching change to AL Cy Young favorite Lance Lynn.  That changes some of the projections, odds, moneyline and prop bets with projected starter and Cy Young contender Carlos Rodon now sidelined as of Wednesday for up to 10 days. FanDuel Sportsbook has taken more money on the White Sox, who are up to a -190 favorite.
