Stanley Cup 2021 Semifinals: Golden Knights are Huge Favorites Over Canadiens

The Stanley Cup 2021 semifinals are set, and so are the series odds after the Vegas Golden Knights sensational series against the Colorado Avalanche ended in 4-2 series victory to send Vegas to the Western Conference finals.

The outdoor games at Lake Tahoe gave us a preview of the Golden Knights and Avalanche back in February, and the Golden Knights series comeback against the Avalanche was one for the ages, and worth reading more in the Las Vegas Sun. Also, check out more insight and updates by Jesse Granger, who covers the Golden Knights for The Athletic.

Stanley Cup 2021 Semifinals

  • Tampa Bay Lightning (-300) vs New York Islanders (+250)
  • Vegas Golden Knights (-500) vs Montreal Canadiens (+400)

Both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights are prohibitive favorites. The Knights are the biggest semifinal favorite since 1990, and one of only four teams since 1988 to be at least a -450 favorite. The other three won and advanced to the Stanley Cup finals.

Along with being a prohibitive favorite over the Canadiens, I reported in Forbes, that the Golden Knights are the clear favorite to win the Stanley Cup.

That’s quite a contrast from two weeks ago as I updated for FanDuel. The Avalanche were the clear favorite to win the Stanley Cup after an opening round sweep over St. Louis. Vegas opened the playoffs just behind Colorado, and after trailing the series 2-0, the Golden Knights were +1600.

In Las Vegas at the SuperBook and Caesars by William Hill, the Knights are even money (+100), while FanDuel Sportsbook has Vegas +125 to hoist the Stanley Cup.

There are storylines abound between Vegas and Montreal, and the Golden Knights are on a roll.

Bettors backing the Golden Knights are on a roll too, and “it’s been a bloodbath” for the sportsbooks in Nevada, as William Hill reported after Game 5 of the series against the Avalanche. When Vegas won 6-3 in Game 6 and also covered the puck line and over the total, the sportsbooks were ready to surrender.

The Canadiens will surrender next.

You can bet on it.
