New Course, Odds And Betting Insight For AT&T Byron Nelson

The AT&T Byron Nelson has been a staple event on the PGA Tour. The 2020 event was canceled due to the ongoing pandemic, and the 2021 tournament begins a new era at a new course in McKinney, Texas. The TPC Craig Ranch is a par 72 layout for the pros, and plays to 7,468 yards.

NOTABLE PLAYERS IN THE FIELD

Hideki Matsuyama will return for his first event since winning The Masters. Another top finish in Texas, and and he can join four other top-10 players in the world rankings in Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

Dallas native Jordan Spieth also plays for the first time since finishing T3 at the Masters, where he was the most popular bet at Augusta.

Also in the field are Jason Day and Rickie Fowler, who has fallen to No. 116 in the world rankings. Keith Mitchell will play, and at No. 249 in the world, he led the Wells Fargo Championship into the final round. Sam Burns will play, and he’s cracked top-50 in the world rankings for the first time since winning the Valspar Championship to start the month of May. The 2019 Byron Nelson champion Sung Kang is currently No. 156 in the world after reaching No. 52 a year ago.

AT&T Byron Nelson Picks and Season Rundown

The tournament match-up record is now 15-4 since the start of 2021 and the Sony Open. That includes another winner at the Valspar Championship, where we also hit and bet the outright winner on Sam Burns at 100/1 odds.

Our 9-1 run was snapped at the RBC Heritage. That included a 2-0 match-up results at The Masters, a 4-0 run since the Honda Classic, where we had longshot Matt Wallace as a match-up winner by the weekend, and 5-1 since The PLAYERS Championship when we had Justin Thomas as both the outright winner and tournament match-up winner. Continuing a 6-1 run since Will Zalatoris (+4500) delivered a top-10 finish as a golfer to watch and another match-up winner for us in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and 8-1 since the WGC Workday with two more match-up winners (plus a push), and a golfer to watch in Collin Morikawa (+4500) who won the tournament outright. Finally, the run was 9-1 back to the Genesis Invitational at Riviera where we whacked another easy match-up winner (plus a push) when our opponent missed the cut.

Golfers to Watch at longer odds

Thomas Pieters (+7000 DraftKings, +9000 Circa): Pieters splits his time between the PGA Tour and European Tour, but the 6-foot 5 Belgium is a big hitter with rock solid Strokes Gained stats ranking top-10 in Tee-to-Green, Ball Striking and Approach over his last 36 rounds on the PGA Tour. He’s also top 5 in Sand saves and Greens in Regulation Gained. His weakness is Putting and Short Game, yet his worst finish in four PGA Tour events since last September is T23 at the U.S. Open. He’s playing this week in preparation for next week’s PGA Championship, but Pieters is a clear contender and top talent who has finished top-15 in his last four starts between the two Tours. 

Patton Kizzire (+15000 DraftKings): Kizzire is a two-time PGA TOUR winner and will enjoy the wider and more forgiving fairways at TPC Craig Ranch. His struggles have come from off the tee, but he finished top-10 at the Valero Texas Open and has been playing well enough recently with top-25 ranking over his last 36 rounds in SG: Putting and Approach. Kizzire has posted scores in the 60’s in 40% of his rounds this year, which is among the tops on the TOUR. Those stats should carry him to more birdies, which will be required to go low and contend.

Carlos Ortiz (+6000)

Carlos Ortiz played college golf at the University of North Texas, and this looks like a good week to turn around his recent struggles. The 30-year-old has not played or finished well since February, yet he remains one of the top putters and short game specialist on Tour, ranking top-five in both stats over his last 36 rounds. Ortiz is ranked No. 54 in the world, and his off-the-tee stats are still solid, ranking top-25 in this field. A better finish should be expected this week.

Update: Kizzire and Ortiz are both -11 and T5 through Round 2 into weekend. A top 10 or 20 finish is well within reach at solid odds. Kizzire (-21) finishs T3 to cash in Top 5, 10 and 20. Ortiz (-15) finishes T21.
