The 2020 TOUR Championship And Betting on Golf’s Biggest Money Event
Just 30 PGA pros remain in the quest for the FedExCup. But only a handful have a shot to win the $15 million bonus prize for first place prize with the modified and staggard strokes-based scoring system (FedEx Starting Stokes).
Following another match-up winner and even an outright winner on Jon Rahm in the thrilling finish and sudden death victory over Dustin Johnson at the BMW Championship, we’re back on the Tee shooting for more Pars and Birdies and trying to avoid the hazards, rough and Bogeys.
I provided an early TOUR Championship preview at TheLines, and early Monday the odds were posted for both the TOUR Championship tournament winner and the FedExCup champion. I’ll chip-in more player profiles, projections and picks prior to the rare Friday start of the event which runs through Labor Day on Monday.

East Lake is a classic tree-lined course that favors golfers that are precise with their irons and strong ball strikers. Hitting fairway’s is a premium and of significance, as the fairways at East Lake are among the 10 tightest on tour in average width. Over the course of time in the Tour Championship at East Lake, players have hit approximately 54% of fairways. From the fairways or rough, the lies are often uneven. When players miss a fairway, they hit just less than 50% of greens, and often scramble for par with fast and more undulating greens and putting surfaces. Scrambling stats are therefore worth reviewing.
The winning score in each of the last 12 Tour Championship events at East Lake has been between 7-under par and 13-under par.
TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP ODDS
Note that the odds to win under FanDuel are for the outright winner without the FedExCup starting bonus applied. The player with the lowest 72-hole score over the four days will cash betting tickets.
However, you can also bet on the winner of the Tour Championship (FedExCup below) with the bonus strokes applied (FedEx Starting Strokes), which are indicated in the column below for each player.
TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP STRUCTURE
The player who finishes the four rounds at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club with the lowest score in relation to par (included their staggered start) will win the FedExCup and be credited with a win at the Tour Championship.
So, the player who shoots the lowest gross score over four days at the season finale might not win the FedEx Cup.
With the new format, the leader in the FedExCup Standings will begin the week at 10 under par with the player in second at 8 under par, third at 7 under, fourth at 6 under and fifth at 5 under par. The next five will begin at 4-under, regressing by one stroke per five players until those ranked Nos. 26-30 start at even par.
