Upset! Saturday Surprises and Shockers in College Football Week 3

BYU (+23.5) over No. 6 Wisconsin Headlines Week 3 Upsets in College Football and a Big Week for Fairway’s Followers

Here’s the Week 3 upset report I provide at BetAmerica.

“Well, that was fun,” said Cougars coach Kalani Sitake after BYU shocked Wisconsin, 24-21. BYU was rewarded in the rankings, cracking the coaches poll at No. 24.

Byu’s 24-21 win at Wisconsin as a 23.5-point underdog wasn’t the only shocker Saturday. Akron (+21) embarrassed another Big Ten opponent in a 39-34 win at Northwestern. And for the 2nd straight week, Nebraska sh*t in their bed at home, losing to Troy 24-19 as a 10.5-point favorite. A trip to Ann Arbor for the ‘Huskers Big Ten opener against Michigan (-18) awaits Nebraska, who will fall to 0-3 under new coach Scott Frost with another loss. To complete the quadruple bogey by the Big Ten, Maryland was also embarrassed at home, out-gained by 15-point underdog Temple 429-195 in another shocker, 35-14.

The other double-digit ‘Dog to pull the upset and Saturday surprise was No. 12 LSU (+10), who stunned No. 7 Auburn with a last second field goal, 22-21. LSU moves up to No. 6 in this week’s college football coaches poll.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, there were 11 outright underdog winners that were priced at plus-3 or more. We nailed three of them in our weekly Fairway’s Football Forecast isolating college football underdogs.

  • Syracuse (+3) dominated Florida State 30-7
  • North Texas (+7) had six interceptions in a Mean Green humiliation of the Hogs of Arkansas, 44-17
  • San Diego State (+5.5) put a point-of-attack pounding on Arizona State 28-21, out-rushing ASU 311-36

Duke (+6) was also on our card in the Blue Devils blasting of Baylor, 40-27 to complete a big 7-2 ATS Saturday for us and Fairway’s followers. An 8-2 week overall in college football point spread prognosis included two totals, Washington’s 21-7 win over Utah for an UNDER winner, and we got in early on a sharp upward mover OVER the total in Memphis’ 59-22 blowout of Georgia State Friday night with more analysis here.

Pittsburgh and UAB were two other home underdog winners of more than 3 points that were part of the big week of outright underdog winners in Week 3 college football.

Check out the September bye week schedule as you continue your pursuit of profit and college football (underdog) winners each week.
