Pacific Classic Tops Biggest Weekend of Racing During Del Mar’s Summer Meet

Horse Racing News, Notes and Daily Tips From Saratoga and Del Mar including TVG Pacific Classic (G1)

The biggest days at the races are the weekends, where the top tracks in America host the biggest stakes races. The Triple Crown races draw tremendous interest from fans, media and horse handicappers and bettors. From the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs to the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park, there is plenty of additional horse racing that draws interest and betting at tracks around the country. That includes beautiful Del Mar in Southern California, which hosts the TVG Pacific Classic this weekend and the Breeders’ Cup World Championships Nov. 5-6.

The weekend of Aug. 20-22 features a number of graded stakes races including two “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series races at Del Mar. One of those is the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar which awards the winner a fees-paid entry to the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 6, also at beautiful Del Mar.

Racing at Saratoga

Each year culminates with the Breeders’ Cup World Championships the first weekend in November. The best race horses in the world compete for million dollar or more purses as jockeys, trainers and owners guide them to racing riches. The Sport of Kings becomes a world spectacle at the Breeders’ Cup, and Santa Anita (10) and Churchill Downs (9) have hosted the event more than any other tracks. The 2021 Breeders’ Cup is at Del Mar is the second time the track has hosted the Breeders’ Cup World Championship.
