Firing Birdies And Bets Towards The FedExCup At The BMW Championship

Just 70 players remain in the FedExCup Playoffs, and Dustin Johnson has moved to No. 1 in the standings leading into the BMW Championship. Johnson’s  remarkable performance and runaway 11-shot win at the Northern Trust saw him lead the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, Approach, Ball Striking, Greens in Regulation, Putts (GIR), Proximity and Eagles.

After winning at 20/1 odds last week with a 30-under par total score, Johnson heads the list of favorites at this week’s BMW Championship at Olympia Fields CC. I provided a BMW Championship tournament preview at TheLines with insight and information you can bet on including key stats leaders.

Webb Simpson, No. 3 in the FedExCup Standings, is taking this week off. The BMW Championship field will be 69 players.

The North Course at Olympia Fields is classic tree-lined parkland course with naturally routed rolling terrain. Butterfield Creek meanders its way around seven holes, including twice on numbers 12 and 14. An early look at the more dramatic section of the course and property starts at the signature Par 4 at hole No. 3. A  blind tee shot runs to an area short of Butterfield Creek. The driving areas on many Par 4s are pinched by deep bunkers. The picturesque Par 4 at hole No. 14 is from an elevated tee box that plays down into a valley. As you watch and wager on the event and make in-play bets, note those Par 4s and follow Off-the-Tee stats. This is a long, demanding Par 70, but accuracy will still be a signficant strength as reports are near 5″ of rough. Many doglegs will test players precision into the tougher sloped greens, which is one of the defenses against lower scores at Olympia Fields.

More will follow, including some added player profiles, picks and tournament match-ups of interest as we look to improve on our 8-3 match-up mark over the past seven tournaments and posted the Hatton over Fitzpatrick (cut) bet on the Northern Trust page last week. We added a Round 4 winner on tournament runner-up Harris Englis (-2) over Louis Oosthuizen (+2).
