College Football 2021 National Championship Odds

Sportsbooks Offer College Football Futures in March Despite Uncertainty in NCAA Season

Clemson and Alabama are joined by Ohio State as the early favorites to win the 2021 college football national championship. All three are priced at 5-1 or less offering no value, but sportsbooks are offering bettors a chance to get their money down early as the COVID-19 heath crisis takes major pro and college sports off the calendar.

Those three teams are popular early choices as bettors put early money down at America’s largest bookmaker William Hill.

Prior to the start of last season, Alabama (5/2) and Clemson (9/5) were the prohibitive favorites to win the 2020 National Championship at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas. Neither was able to pull it off. Alabama failed to make the CFB Playoff while Clemson came up short of defending their title in a national championship game loss to LSU, 42-25. The LSU Tigers were 30-1 at some sportsbooks to win the National Championship prior to the season and the SuperBook had LSU at 50-1 in January of 2019 following the championship game.

Whether the college football season starts as scheduled near September 1 remains to be seen, as spring practices have been cancelled. Coaches and players hope to resume activities this summer, but it will be interesting to see the coverage of preseason publications and media updates along with beat writers reporting as the football season and potential summer practices near.

A total of 65 teams make up the Power Five conferences, or half of the 130 teams in Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Of those, 19 of the top 20 power conference teams are given the best chance to win the 2021 National Championship, joining Notre Dame (Independent) on the odds leaderboard as of March 30, 2020.
