Clemson Crushes Alabama To Win College Football National Championship

Clemson Tigers Trounce Alabama 44-16 to Win National Championship

From the early pick-6 to the final gun, it was an orange crush for Clemson Monday night in the college football national championship game. Clemson (15-0) won their second national championship in four years, beating Alabama 44-16.

The Tigers offense and freshman QB Trevor Lawrence made plays throughout the contest, and the Tigers defense held the Crimson Tide on numerous key third and fourth down plays to hold Alabama scoreless in the second half. Lawrence finished 20-of-32 passing for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns. Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa completed 22-of-34 passes for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns plus 2 key interceptions.

As I noted in my college football national championship betting breakdown for Forbes, it was a very rare situation when you could bet a touchdown underdog like Clemson (+6) that featured a dominant defense along with a strong, balanced offense that averaged more than 250 yards both rushing and passing this season.

While the betting activity was strong on the national championship game and futures bets were decided, some not so wise bettors were placing big bets on Alabama plus six-figure money line bets on the Crimson Tide. We provided a betting breakdown on why Clemson would win.

Clemson’s win secured one of my strongest bowl seasons in 15 years. I provided a rated play or opinion on every bowl game and finished 32-9 ATS (78%) on all bowl plays including 18-5 ATS (78%) on rated plays. I provided written analysis on many bowl games for members and various websites of which I’m a contributor, including the National Championship game at Forbes. Top plays and best bets including on Clemson were 7-2 ATS and we finished on an 11-1 ATS birdie binge on the back nine on rated bowl plays from Dec. 26 through the national championship game.

I also used Clemson (+6.5) as my best bet of the week in the Wise Guys Invitational Handicapping contest with at least 50 professional handicappers entered annually. Along with the LA Chargers playoff victory, the Clemson Tigers win secured the final four weeks $1K prize as I finished on a 7-1 ATS run with 12-6 best bets including 2-0 Big Bertha bombs. Selected plays are submitted Monday each week for the weekend games, and the overall finish was not my best with a small winning record. But the best bets and total points gave me another top-15 finish overall after winning in 2010 and numerous top-5 and top-10 finishes. Another fun and profitable season handicapping football.

Looking forward to next football season and researching, writing, reporting and handicapping the games in pursuit of profit.
