3M Open 2022 Betting Preview And Picks

The fourth edition of the 3M Open tees off at TPC Twin Cities following last week’s Open Championship, where we crushed it with an outright winner on Cameron Smith and a 2-0 tournament match-up report to run the posted tournament match-up record to 17-9 this year. We’ve made a few birdies the last two years at the 3M Open in match-up betting, and we’ve chipped-in another one of interest for the 2022 tournament below.

I’ve added more tournament info with player profiles in my coverage for FanDuel at The Duel Sports. Odds to win from the Las Vegas SuperBook.

3M OPEN BETTING ODDS

  • Par: 71 / Yardage 7,431

TPC Twin Cities is one of the easiest courses to drive, and in the inaugural event the average distance was well over 300 yards with average fairways hit at 65%. So players can attack the average size greens, and the course is among the easier on the PGA TOUR for greens in regulation and bottom-3 on tour in putting difficulty (easy).

3M Open is an Event for Longshots

Just three top-25 players are in the field with Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyam and Sungjae Im. I profile all those players and more including dark horse picks in my coverage for FanDuel and The Duel Sports. Another shootout is expected and low scores widens the list of players with longer golf betting odds to hit the leaderboard and contend for a top finish or win. The winning scores the first two years of the event have been -21 (263) and -19 (265) before 100/1 longshot Cameron Champ (-15) won last year and we added to our near misses with longshot Charl Schwartzel (-13) finishing third at 70/1 odds but had a tournament match-up winner on Schwartzel.

In 2019, six of the top-10 finishers had pre-tournament odds to win of +8000 or greater including winner Matthew Wolff (+12500), whose eagle on the closing par 5 gave him a one-shot win over Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa.

In the 2020 event, Michael Thompson won at +10000 odds, and runner-up Adam Long (+15000) was an even greater longshot. Eight players tied for third, and a total of eight players who finished in the top 10 had odds to win of at least +8000.

I have some added interest in the 3M Open, as I’m from the Twin Cities in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota. No doubt we’d love to cash in another bonus winner like last week at The Open Championship, but we’ll continue to shoot for more birdies and scores in our profitable tournament match-up picks and bets.

3M Open Betting and Picks

Fairway’s Favorites: Davis Riley, Maverick McNealy, Adam Svensson, Nick Hardy
Fairway’s Longshots: Chris Gotterup, Matthias Schwab, Wyndham Clark, Callum Tarren

Tournament Match-ups: Matthias Schwab (-105) over Lucas Glover (Caesars)

Tournament match-ups now 17-9 this year following last week’s 2-0 posted plays at The Open Championship.

Next week it’s the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit with a stronger field scheduled to compete.
