2 Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl 55 Prop Bets

The Kansas City Chiefs (16-2) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (14-5) meet in Super Bowl 55, and the Chiefs are a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 56.5. But beyond the side, total and moneyline bets, bettors are firing at the hundreds of propositions and player prop bets. And no player is more popular than Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

I chipped in some Super Bowl props for FanDuel Sportsbook, including 3 winning prop bets in the AFC Championship with a pair at solid plus prices. Now we add 2 prop bets to consider and other Mahomes prop bets to review in Super Bowl 55.

Patrick Mahomes Passing Yards: Under 329.5 (-110)

Patrick Mahomes averaged a league-high 316 passing yards per game this season, and he passed for at least 330 yards in seven regular season games. In two playoff games, though, he’s passed for just 580 yards. Now he faces the toughest test against Tampa Bay. It’s notable that Mahomes passed for season highs of 37 completions, 49 attempts and 462 yards at Tampa Bay in a 27-24 Week 12 win. But the Bucs made some significant adjustments after that game. Tampa bay also will have CB Jamel Dean back to cover WR Tyreek Hill more closely, as he missed the Week 12 contest. Tampa Bay ranks No. 5 in Football Outsiders’ pass defense DVOA metric, and this number is higher than Mahomes passing prop total against a much weaker Browns defense in the divisional round. An 8-iron swing on this prop, as an aerial attack like Week 12 would be a problem for this prop. But the percentage play is under.

2. Patrick Mahomes Rushing Yards: Under 19.5 (+100)

This number may look low, but the Buccaneers have the NFL’s No. 1 rush defense. They’ve played better down the stretch and have been disrupting opponents backfields with more pressure. Mahomes may be on the move more, but Tampa’s speed on defense is excellent. Mahomes ran the ball just four times against the Bucs in Week 12, and he’s been held under 19.5 rushing yards in both playoff games this season.
